Hazy days

written in response to #YDWP.

A long time ago I was a different person to that you see today. I was young and wild and careless with my life and those I cared about. I never thought about the tomorrows that were to come or the days id left behind, everything was about the here and now and how much fun I could have in the process.

I was a wild child, for sure but it got me nowhere in the end, just misery.

Today I can sit back and remember those times with a clear mind. I nearly ruined my life back then and I am glad that I came through it all relatively unscathed.

I wrote this poem at the end of that period in my life.

The road to realization.

I loved paydays on Mondays
Hated comedowns on Sundays
Those really were the best days
Living life in a haze

Off Id go to the dealer
Her deals were a squealer
Got spare cash for Tequila
Alcoholic deceiver

Id snort ounces of coke
To build illusions of hope
Id smoke kilos of dope
Filled whole rooms with smoke

Always living life in a bubble
never coming down was the trouble
Cant say NO, in a muddle
E!? Yeah, mines a double

Then immunity killed the peak
Stronger, harder drugs Id seek
Soon too spaced out to speak
On a self destructive streak

Life started to get me down
I didn’t fit at all in that town
One wrong crowd and turned to brown
Jesus Christ Im such a clown

Now I’m a full time abuser
A dependent drug user
Never a needle abuser
but definitely still a loser

Now im out in the frost
I can see exactly the cost
Look at all the friends Ive lost
Look at all the friends Ive lost!
