Nothing beats being a Mum.

Fandango’s Provocative Question #31 & Your Daily Word Prompt 15/7/19.

What do consider to be the highlight of your life so far? Do you think it’s something that you might be able to exceed in the future?

Fandango’s Provocative Question #31

A tough question to answer for me for two reasons…

Firstly, I’m a mum. Nothing in the world can beat the moment you hold your newborn child in your arms. For me this will never happen again. At thirty eight and with two grand-babies, I am extremely unlikely to ever become pregnant again, let alone want to, and so this will never be topped in my opinion.

Secondly… If I take away all of the Mum experiences that will always top my highlights list then the highlight of my life would have to be the backpacking trip I took around New Zealand some ten years ago.

Mum had planned the trip for her and a friend but unfortunately (for them) the friend became ill a few weeks before they were due to fly out and so mum brought me in as a stand in.

We flew from Heathrow to Hong Kong and then Hong Kong to Auckland, followed by four weeks exploring the islands. It was utterly amazing and an experience I doubt I will ever be able to afford to replicate; certainly not whilst mum duties sap my resources anyways.

I have lived some amazing and special experiences already in my life that would be extremely difficult to beat but I certainly hope that I haven’t lived all of my life’s highlights already, I’m hoping I have a fair bit of life left to live yet and it will be a dull ride if I’ve already experienced the most riveting bits.

  1. I can never experience what it’s like to give birth, but I can tell you that watching my wife give birth to our two children was definitely a highlight for me. I’ve always wanted to go to New Zealand, but haven’t yet and I kind of doubt that I will. Sounds like it was an amazing adventure.

    1. It was utterly mind blowing. I swam with whales and dolphins in beautiful warm waters and walked a glacier all in the same few days. There is no-where in the world I would rather be than right where I am or over there. No where else will ever do for me.
Don’t give up on your dream if you really want to go. We went with no luggage except what we could carry onto the plain. We bought a tent and sleeping things out there. hitch hiked and hired a camper van for transport; all done on a budget. Flights were the biggest expense. Its all possible my friend, you just need to want it bad enough.
Personally Im saving my dream for retirement. I know i can sell my 2 up, 2 down mid terrace house here in the UK and buy a farm for the same money out there, complete with 10+ acres of land. One day I will do just that.

  2. You’re awesome!
Not trying to be weird and deep but women are extraordinary creatures… all the things your bodies go through and endure is nothing less than miraculous. And it angers me when (especially guys) want to criticize how a woman should look.
