The Heist.

Your Daily Word Prompt, Word of the day challenge, 50 Word Thursday #26 & Thimbleful Thursday Challenge. 27/6/19. CHARGE, SPRAY, “There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact” (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Boscombe Valley Mystery) & VERTICALLY CHALLENGED.

Max and Keef weren’t the most experienced thieves but that didn’t stop them aiming big. The most prominent gallery in town was hosting a world-renowned artist this coming night and for the pair that only meant one thing. A heist!

The two had made all the arrangements they thought they needed and headed out under the cover of darkness; the evenings events over and all staff had gone home for the night. The time was right and as luck would have it, there was no moon to light the buildings exterior access points, perfect for sneaking about.

Max, the brains of the pair, had already scoped out the place. He had discovered the best access points by pretending to be a meter reader. Hunting around the back, down an alley he discovered an out of the way access hatch into the basement. He had also worked out where the DNA spray burglar alarm was and how to disable it; courtesy of Keef, the silver-tongued fox, and a night out with the receptionist.

What Max really needed Keef for on this job however was his height. At a good 6 foot and three inches, Keef towered over Max; vertically challenged at a mere five foot eight. Without Keef, Max had no hope of completing the job and this irked him no end. Max hated to rely on anyone, even his oldest and most trusted friend.

“We all set then? D’ya need a boost?” Keef sniggered.

“Don’t be a twat, Keef, without me you can’t even get in! Could you spot all the trigger points?”

Max hated being mocked, especially for his height and Keef’s jibe just wound him up.

“There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact, my friend and you never manage to see the plainly obvious! Now get over here and give me that boost before we both end up with a charge!”
